Artist Talk with Neyen Pailamilla and Finissage with Joanne Rodriguez
We warmly invite you to the artist talk and finissage of the first chapter, Spring: Pewen, what do you dream of?
Drawing on the performance ‘Transplant: Healing in the Mapuche Diaspora through the Pewen`, curator Joanne Rodriguez and artist Neyen Pailamilla will discuss their artistic practice. The work focuses on the relationships between the body, territory and living systems from a diasporic perspective. Inspired by the Mapuche concept of itrofill mongen (‘all life without exception’), Pailamilla explores the connections between human and non-human entities.
Together we will watch Neyen Pailamilla’s performance `Transplant. Healing in the Mapuche Diaspora through the Pewen`, which took place at the opening of the exhibition series Knowing Plants – Ecologies of Memory and Practice on 19 March at the Botanical Gardens in Bonn.
Join us at the Global Heritage Lab at 5 pm for the artist talk and stay for a drink afterwards.
Several participatory elements accompany the chapter. In the fragrance laboratory – developed in collaboration with the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology – visitors can explore the scent of the sacred Mapuche tree, Pewen. Two reading areas, curated by the first Black library in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Theodor Wonja Michael Library, and by the children’s and young people’s bookshop Kleiner Laden e.V., invite visitors to linger, browse, and reflect.
We look forward to welcoming you and to the conversations the exhibition will inspire.
The event ist part of our exhibition “Knowing Plants” at the Global Heritage Lab/P26.
