Advancing Provenance Research: Annual Meeting of the Working Group Colonial Provenances at the Global Heritage Lab
We are delighted to host this year’s meeting of the AG Koloniale Provenienzen (Working Group Colonial Provenances) at the Global Heritage Lab. The group addresses topics such as the development of long-term strategies for collection management, approaches to prioritizing individual holdings and making research findings accessible, as well as proposals for (transnational) networking and the institutionalization of provenance research at museums and universities.

Textilien in missionarischen Kontexten – Unerzählte Geschichten und symbolische Dissonanzen
Vortrag und Diskussion zu unerzählten Geschichten und Symbolischer Dissonanz bei Textilien in missionarischen Kontexten: Warum reibt sich ein farbenfrohes Altartuch aus Ghana mit dem monochromen Farbschema der katholischen Kirche? Warum behielten weibliche Mitglieder der Societas Verbi Divini im China des 19. Jahrhunderts ihre europäischen Ordensgewänder bei, während ihre männlichen Kollegen in chinesische Kleidung wechselten? Prof. Gisela Muschiol nimmt das Konzept symbolischer Dissonanz als Ausgangspunkt, um über die vielfältigen Weisen nachzudenken, in denen Textilien in missionarischen Kontexten verwendet wurden und werden – von der Liturgie bis hin zu Kleidungsvorschriften für Missionar*innen und Missionssammlungen.
