We are delighted to announce the publication of the book “Das queere Museum – Praktiken und Narrationen diversitätssensibler Museumsarbeit” by Global Heritage Lab doctoral researcher Eleonora Grammatikou, published by transcript Verlag.
Drawing on an empirical case study of the Theatermuseum Düsseldorf, the book explores how queer perspectives and diversity-sensitive practices can be integrated into museum work. The focus lies on how museum professionals imagine and engage with queer perspectives, how members of the queer theatre and performance communities negotiate their identities within the museum space, and how such practices contribute to institutional and sustainable change.
Applying perspectives from Queer- and Gender Studies, Museum Studies, and critical cultural analysis, the book asks the question on how museums can become more inclusive and participatory spaces and how queer practices can challenge established forms of representation and institutional structures.
The publication therefore contributes to ongoing research at the Global Heritage Lab around museums, critical heritage, representation, participation, and the ways in which cultural institutions can engage critically with questions of diversity and social change.
