University of Exellence Invites You: “Me and the Others – Individual, Group and Social Community” (24.04.2024)

24 April 2024, 6:00 – 7:30 pm, Lecture Hall I, main building of the University of Bonn (Am Hof 1, 53113 Bonn)

In the third event of the new event series “The University of Excellence in Bonn Invites You” on Wednesday, 24 April 2024, the Recotorate of the University of Bonn will address the central question in life about “ME” and, in this context, also ask who “the OTHERS” are that most of us have to deal with on a daily basis.
“Who am I really?” – The question of who this “I” actually is is one of the questions that everyone has asked themselves at some point in their lives or will ask themselves in the future. From an evolutionary perspective, we are part of a population whose gene pool has changed from generation to generation over a long period of time.
Unless we are identical twins, our genetic make-up makes us unique. And even genetically identical twins become unique individuals through their non-identical experiences – and therefore through environmental influences. What’s more, our bodies not only include our own body cells, but also trillions of microorganisms that live on us and in us – and without which healthy survival would be unthinkable. Are they “others” or do they belong to “me”? Where does my “I” begin and where does it end?
