Working Group Meeting of Justitia et Pax at the Global Heritage Lab

13.04.2026

How does the Catholic Church engage with the legacy of colonialism? This question was at the center of a meeting of the working group “Dealing with the Consequences of Colonialism” of Justitia et Pax at the Global Heritage Lab of the University of Bonn.

In the context of increasing global interconnectedness, the historical burdens of colonialism are gaining renewed attention in political and cultural debates. Postcolonial perspectives highlight that both experiences from the colonial period and the processes of decolonisation continue to shape relationships up to the present day.

The German Commission Justitia et Pax, together with its international partners, is committed to addressing these historical injustices and fostering dialogue.

The meeting was hosted by Junior Professor Julia Binter at the Global Heritage Lab and provided a platform for developing new collaborative research initiatives, including partnerships with the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies (BCDSS) and Prof. Dr Klaus von Stosch (International Centre for Comparative Theology and Social Issues).
