The Working Group on Decolonisation of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) supports museums in proactively addressing cultural rights, democracy, and the role of museums in colonisation. Jun.-Prof. Julia Binter, Global Heritage Lab, joined their meeting at inherit, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin from 1 – 5 June 2025, to talk about the collaborative research, exhibition and restitution project ‘Confronting Colonial Pasts, Envisioning Creative Futures’. Together with Anna Szoeke, Scientific Coordinator of ‘CoMuse – the Collaborative Museum’ of the Ethnological Museum and Museum of Asian Art in Berlin, they discussed the impact of collaborative projects on museums as infrastructures of care and spaces of knowledge.
