Stitching Resistance- Film Screenings

How are needles, thread and textiles related to resistance?

In this film screening, which will be followed by an open space for dialogue, we will explore how textile crafts can be used as a form of political resistance. We will show several short documentaries about:

  • Tatreez: the Palestinian art of embroidery as a form of cultural resilience.
  • Arpilleras: colourful, three-dimensional narrative fabrics created by Chilean women in resistance to the Pinochet dictatorship.

After the screening, we will open the floor for a dialogue where we collectively reflect on the intersections of memory, gender, craft and resistance. With our workshop, we invite participants to share thoughts, personal experiences and reflections on the political dimensions of textile practices related to the past and present.

An event accompanying the exhibition Dressing Resistance: Fashion and the Heritage of Mission.
